Donations

[Autumn 2002] We want to extend our gratefulness to the following former members for their gracious and generous donations to support ChinaRains activities:
SUN MingChun, HE Xin, SU Yang
The donations will be used in website registration, regular meetings and social events expenditures, and possibly souvenirs for guest speakers.

Publications

[Winter 2003] new HE Xin's article "Legal Control on Rural-Urban Migrants in Beijing: Administrative Regulation, Intra-govermental Competition and Campaign" Stanford Journal of International Law. An earlier version of the article was presented at Chinarains (11/02/2001: "Legal Evasion as a Means of Development: a Case Study of Migrant Garment Business in Beijing"). HE Xin, now lecturer of Law at the City University of Hong Kong, is enjoying his new career very much, and plans to come back to Stanford soon to defend his dissertation.

[Autumn 2002] A study on social protest co-authored SU Yang (with Doug McAdam) is recently accepted for publication in American Sociological Review. The paper, titled "Antiwar Protest and Congressional Voting, 1965-1973", will appear in the journal's October issue this year. Part of the study has been presented at ChinaRains (4/20/2001:"Domestic Reaction to US Aggression War: The Case of Vietnam"). SU Yang, now assistant professor at UC Irvine, is former member (1996-2002) and coordinator (1997-98) of ChinaRains.

[Autumn 2002] A study on the Chinese Cultural Revolution co-authored by SU Yang (with Andrew Walder) is recently accepted for publication in China Quarterly in its March 2003 issue. Based on more than 1550 volumes of county annals (xianzhi), the study is the most systematic account to date about the mass movement in the countryside. The paper is primarily crafted and written by Andrew Walder, but reflects the instrumental role by SU Yang in the research design and data collection. SU Yang, now assistant professor at UC Irvine, is former member (1996-2002) and coordinator (1997-1998) of ChinaRains. Three current ChinaRains members (ZHAO Litao, ZHENG Lu and HU Songhua) will be acknowledged in the publication for their contribution to the project.
